It is 2015… does your retail store have a social media presence yet? In this day and age, it is safe to say that most shoppers have some type of social media account. You’ll want to make sure you’re keeping up with your customers!
Here are some quick tips for engaging your customers through social media:
Instagram
Use (but don’t abuse) relevant hashtags to increase your follower base and to reach a broader audience
Take pictures of your newest shipments to get people excited about what’s new in your store
Show off the interior of your store
Is there something that makes your store unique? The setup? The location? A store pet or mascot? ‘Gram it!
Create a hashtag for your store so your followers can use that when ‘gramming a picture – Bonus points if you give them a shout-out for using that hashtag while reppin’ your store. People love feeling special and getting credit!
Make sure your Facebook page has all of your store information – the location/s, phone numbers, what people can find in your store, links to other social media pages, and any other fun fact – Bonus points if you include the owner’s name or the history of the store because people enjoy personal stories!
Use Facebook to offer and provide in-store coupons and discounts to your loyal followers
Use your page to provide announcements and updates to your follower – For example: “We’re closed today because of the snow!” or “We’re having a 30% off sale this weekend!”
Create contests to engage your customers, then follow up and announce the winners on your page
You can also encourage your customers to use the “check-in” feature when they’re at your store, and even offer a small discount for doing so
Make sure your Tweets are a reflection of your store’s “voice” because customers will find you more relatable if your tweets show some personality
Monitor what the Twitter world is saying about you, and respond!
Use photos with your tweets because tweets with images have double the engagement as tweets without images
Tweet about any sales, events, local news, or anything you think your customers might like or need to know
Retweet some of your favorite brands
And of course, encourage your customers to follow you on all of your accounts. If you’re still stuck and not sure what to do, you can look up some of the other retailers in your area and see how they’re using social media to their advantage. And then take it to the next level.
